What can I say? I'm a night owl.
Suddenly... the power goes out! I'm in a dark, silent basement, removed from my precious technology, and the only way to get back to the above levels is to go up these creaky stairs. Awesome. Once I get up there, I look out the nearest window where everything is pitch black. You can barely see a thing... and it's so weird to look out and see every home, every building, and every street light in complete darkness. Normally I'd say that's pretty freaky, but it was such a rare sight to see that it didn't even hit me how creepy the atmosphere was. It was actually kinda nice to just see the world lit up by the moon and the stars. It got me thinking... there ought to be more power outages. I mean, like, everyone is warned well in advance of when they're coming, but we do it so that we can just appreciate the world without all these artificial lights and televisions and radios etc. etc. On top of that, surely it would save a whole lot of energy. I know about Earth Hour, but that's by choice... and don't get me wrong, it's great and all and we should keep it up, but I say there's nothing wrong with pushing this every-now-and-then blackout if it only lasts, say, 60 seconds. Why not? Families get together with the candles, all coming together from their separate rooms to keep each other company. Some even go outside with a light and hang out outside... It's great! So why not do this? Why not push this? And hey, if people really get into it, maybe we can start doing it for longer!
Now, I know this will probably never happen. The entire community will never agree to have something that is essentially forced (whichever way you look at it), but it's still a nice thought to have nonetheless. So here I am, rambling on about this just minutes after it happened. Clearly, I've gone on way. too. long. typing about this idea. I think way too much for this hour. I just needed something to do (don't say sleep). Well, another sleepless night.. another fleeting epiphany.
Okay. Enough. I'll stop.
Goodnight.
